The Ha'penny Bridge, also known as the Liffey Bridge, was first opened in 1816 and quickly became an essential part of the city's infrastructure. The bridge, which is named for the toll of one halfpenny that pedestrians were once required to pay to cross, spans the River Liffey and connects the north and south sides of the city.
